Magic Cat Academy: the Halloween Doodle Game

Magic Cat Academy is the game Google put on its homepage for Halloween 2016, and many people still look for it as Doodle Halloween or the Google Halloween game. You play Momo, a young cat at a school for magic. Ghosts have broken in, and you draw spells to send them away. Play it here any time, free, on a computer or a phone.

How to play the Halloween doodle

  • Press Play. Ghosts float towards Momo from both sides.
  • Each ghost carries one or more symbols above its head.
  • Draw a symbol anywhere on the screen with the mouse or your finger. Every ghost that shows that symbol loses it.
  • A ghost with no symbols left is gone. Draw one symbol that several ghosts share to clear them all at once.
  • If a ghost reaches Momo, she loses a heart. Lose all 5 hearts and the game is over.

How to draw the spells

  • Horizontal line: draw straight across, left to right or right to left.
  • Vertical line: draw straight up or down.
  • V shape: down, then up.
  • Upside-down V (^): up, then down.
  • Lightning bolt: a zigzag. When the game teaches it, it hits every ghost on the screen.
  • Heart: when the game shows it, drawing it gives Momo a heart back.

Draw quickly but cleanly. A shape that is too small or too messy does not count. On a computer, the mouse gives the cleanest lines.

The 5 levels

  • Level 1: the library, among the bookshelves.
  • Level 2: the kitchen, by the oven.
  • Level 3: the science lab, with its potion flasks.
  • Level 4: the gym.
  • Level 5: the roof of the school, for the final fight.

The 2016 and 2020 Halloween doodles

Google launched Magic Cat Academy on 31 October 2016. In 2020, Google brought Momo back for a sequel, Magic Cat Academy 2, where she fights ghosts under the sea. This page plays the 2016 original.

Yes. Draw the symbols with your finger.

Why does my spell not work?

Draw the whole shape in one stroke and make it large. Short or wobbly lines often do not match a symbol.
